How to Make Frames for the Deck and Stringer

Building a plywood boat can be a rewarding experience. You can use it for fishing, cruising, or even racing. But before you can enjoy your new vessel, you need to build the frame. This guide will show you how to make frames for the deck and stringer of your plywood boat.

The first step is to cut the lumber to size. You’ll need two pieces for the deck frame and two pieces for the stringer. The lumber should be at least 1″ thick and 8′ long. Cut the lumber with a saw or have it cut at a hardware store.

Next, drill pilot holes through the lumber. This will make it easier to screw the lumber together later. Drill four holes in each piece of lumber, evenly spaced apart.

Now it’s time to assemble the frames. Place the two pieces of lumber for the deck frame side-by-side on a flat surface. Screw them together using 2″ screws and washers at each pilot hole. Then do the same with the two pieces of lumber for the stringer frame.
